Attractions in Phuket

Phuket has great beautiful natural attractions as beaches and mountains. With its striking beauty of its sparkling white beaches, powdery sand and blue water, known as "The Pearl of the Andaman Sea". The most famous beaches are Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Nai Harn Beach. Smaller islets located around it. It is a tourist attraction that should not be overlooked. Phuket has many good viewpoints such as Big Buddha, Phromthep Cape, Karon (3 Beaches Viewpoint). Other attractions of interest for instance, zoo, aquarium, cabarets and many more.

3 Phuket Big Buddha

Location : Chalong Bay Phuket Big Buddha Phuket Big Buddha or Wat Phra Yai is houses the largest Buddha statue in Phuket which situated atop Khao Nak Koet. Mingmongkol Buddha Image sitting serenely in the meditating posture between Karon and Chalong which overlooks Chalong Bay and 360 degree spectacular panoramic views of Phuket, the islands and the Andaman Sea. The temple was created with the help of Wat Kitti Sangkharam (Wat Kata) as part of the forestation project. Covering an area of 42 rai, the land is the appropriate place to house the 25.45-metre wide and 45-metre tall Buddha statue that faces 19 degrees northeast. The temple is considered a landmark respected by both the people of Phuket and visitors alike.

  1. From Phuket Town on Chaofa Nok Road and beyond Chalong Temple distanced by 800 m., you can turn right to Soi Yodsanae (distanced by 6 km. driving up to the mount), Chalong Sub-district, Mueang District, Phuket Province.

  2. From Chalong Junction Distanced by 1 km. from Chalong junction on Chaofa Nok Road, you can turn left to Soi Yodsanae (distanced by 6 km. driving up to the mount), Chalong Sub-district, Mueang District, Phuket Province.

4Phromthep Cape

Location : Rawai Beach Phromthep Cape Phromthep Cape (Laem Phromthep) has a line of palm trees runs from the cliffs and all the way down to the sea which it is the best place to watch sunset of Phuket. Laem Phromthep is an easily recognisable landmark for the early seafarers travelling up the Malay Peninsula from the sub-continent.

How to get there
From Phuket town, take the 4027 route and the 4024 route to Rawai Beach and then take 4233 route about 650 kilometre to car park of Laem Phromthep. Just walk about 1 kilometre will arrive to view point of Laem Phromthep.

6 Thalang National Museum

Location : Thalang District Thalang National Museum The museum was formed by Phuket People with the cooperation of the Fine Arts Department as a place to honor the Thalang's Two Heroines, and a repository of historical. Archaeological and cultural heritage of Phuket and its surrounding area along the Andaman Sea. It was inaugurated on March 14, 1989 by HRH Princess Sirindhorn and continues its role in preserving the Andaman's cultural heritage, providing education program for local and foreign visistors since then. Today Thalang National Musem is also one of the cultural attractions of Phuket

7 Wat Chalong

Location : Chalong Bay Luang Por Cham of Wat Chalong Wat Chalong has stands the cast statue of Luangpho Chaem, who had devoted himself to Buddhism, traditional medicine, education, government, and happiness for the people in Phuket.

Luang Por Cham was not only an outstanding abbot who teaches monks and laypeople in Phuket, but also a renowned orthopedist of Thai traditional medicine. The abbot once led the local people to successfully quell the uprising Chinese tin miner rebellion in Phuket. Having been informed of this patriotic deed, King Chulalongkorn, or Rama V, bestowed the title "Prakru-Visuttiwongsajarn-Yanmunee" on him and renamed Chalong Temple "Chaitararam" which means the temple of victory.There are also statues of Luangpho Chuang, and Luangpho Chaem, abbots of the temple during later times.

How to get there
  1. By Car Wat Chalong is about 8 kilometres outside town. TakeWichit Songkhram Road to the bypass and turn left, and drive for about 10 minutes. Wat Chalong is on the left.

  2. By Bus A Songtaew (local bus) can be taken from the city of Phuket - Ao Chalong Road.

8 Phuket Thaihua Museum

9 Ton Sai Waterfall

Location : Thalang District Ton Sai Waterfall Ton Sai Waterfall is a small falls, over which pours a great volume of water during the rainy season which area is rich in wildlife, including over 100 bird species. The waterfall gives a relaxing feeling and lot of trees surrounding it is over 100 years old. Especially rare is the palm specie called the Governor's Palm or White Back Palm, which can be found at Ton Sai Waterfall. The park headquarters and a small restaurant with an excellent view are also at Ton Sai. For nature enthusiasts, the sanctuary has also mapped out walking trails.

How to get there
The entrance is on the road east from Thalang Town. Drive north up Thepkrasattri Road (Airport Road) and turn right at the Thalang traffic lights. Drive on straight through the rubber plantations to the entrance.

10 Wat Phra Nang Sang

Location : Thalang District Wat Phra Nang Sang Wat Phra Nang Sang is an old and historical landmark of Phuket, the temple was once a fort resisting the Burmese invasion around 1785. Inside the old chapel are enshrined the three oldest and largest Buddha statues made of tin. Called the Three Kings, they are positioned in the midsections of another three large statues.

How to get there
The temple is located 20 kilometres from town on Thep Krasattri Road. Travel along Thepkasattri Road, turn left at the Thalang District intersection and continue directly into the temple.

12 Phuket Aquarium

Location : Phuket Town xxxx Phuket aquarium is perfect destination for a family excursion, it is surrounded by breathtaking scenic bays and islands. Phuket Aquarium was established in 1983 as unit of the PMBC, a research and monitoring center under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Enter the aquarium and find yourself in an amazing underwater world with over 150 different species from freshwater and marine habitats, most of them local species from the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. 13 Phuket Zoo

14 Karon View Point

16 Two Heroines Monument

Location : Thalang District Two Heroines Monument Phuket’s most famous monument in Thalang District is the memorial statue of the heroines: Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Si Sunthon, who rallied islanders in 1785 to repel Burmese invaders.

How to get there
Two Heroines Monument is located across from the wet market and Thalang Witthaya School on Dom Chom Tao Road (Route 4030) in Thepkrasattri Sub-district, near the intersection with Thepkrasattri Road (Route 402).

17Sarasin Bridge

Location : Mai Khao Beach Sarasin Bridge With Sarasin Bridge’s charming surroundings, it is more than only a convenient way to cross the river, it has also become a tourist attraction. In 1970, the Sarasin Bridge was built to help connect Phuket Island to the mainland of Thailand. This enabled the transportation between both areas tremendously and many merchants moved to Phuket and flourished together with the island’s prosperity. Moreover, the bridge is a tragic part of Phuket’s history because of its story of forbidden love with two people who would die in the end.


18 Khao Rang Viewpoint

Location : Phuket Town Khao Rang Viewpoint Khao Rang Viewpoint has a beautiful views of Phuket Town which can be seen by going to the top of Khao Rang Hill, on the town's northwest border. There are also several restaurants featuring spectacular views of the city, a health park for exercise enthusiasts, and a comfortable, expanse of grass at the top with a bronze statue of Phraya Ratsada Nupradit, the model Governor of Phuket during King Rama V's reign.

From Phuket International Airport, take 402 route into Phuket Town. Turn right to Thung Ka Road at the intersection of Satree Phuket School. Drive pass the intersection of Phuket Merlin Hotel go on Mae Luan Road and turn right about 1.6 kilometers go to Khao Rang.

19 Cable Jungle Adventure Phuket

Location : Thalang District Cable Jungle Adventure Phuket Cable Jungle Adventure is a totall new challenge that allows you to fly through the jungle in maimum safety. Strapped in harnesses you run with a pulley on cables linked from tree to tree. 20 Natural study route, Sea turtles laying eggs on the beach

Location : Mai Khao beach Natural study route, Sea turtles laying eggs on the beach Mai Khao is the longest beach in Phuket. It’s 8 kilometers from National Park office. It stretches from Hat Nai Yang, airport to Hat Sai Kaeo . It’s a white sand beach with plenty of marine animals such as sea cicadas, which has the same size as a beetle of the genus Buprestis. Its shell and legs are like shrimp. Its color is the same color as the sand.

How to get there
From the Phang Nga province, cross Sarasin Bridge (Thep Ka Sat Tri Bridge), turn left and drive for 3 km. The Tha Chat Chai National Park office is located in the north part of Sirinat National Park. You can walk across Sarasin Bridge and follow highway No. 402 to the airport, then turn left and walk an other 3 kilometers to Si Ri Nat National Park.

21 Wat Phra Thong

Location : Thalang District Wat Phra Thong Wat Phra Thong temple is a popular attraction for both visitors and local residents. Phra Thong located in the temple is the upper half of a large Buddha statue which seems to emerge from the ground. Legend has it that during the invasion of Thalang town in 1785, the Burmese made several attempts to excavate the statue in order to take it back to Burma. Each time they dug into the ground, swarms of hornets would swoop on them and they had to give up in the end. Later, the visible part of the statue was covered with gold by the villagers and has remained as such until today.

How to get there
The temple is located approximately 20 kilometers from Phuket City. Travel along Thepkrasattri Road, upon reaching the Thalang District Office, turn right and proceed directly to the temple.

22Old Phuket Town

Location : Phuket Town Old Phuket town and Antique Buildings Old Phuket Town and Antique Buildings. The beginning of the tin boom during the Nineteenth Century led to construction of many fine old mansions and shops still well preserved. The architectural style, typical of the region, is described as Sino-Portuguese and has a strongly Mediterranean character. Shops present a very narrow face on the street but stretch back a long way. Many, especially on Dibuk Rd., have old wooden doors with Chinese fretwork carving. Other streets, forming what might be called 'Old Phuket',with similar structures are Phang-nga, Yaowarat, Thalang, and Krabi, and a walking tour of the area is easy and delightful. Some other old European-style buildings of note are the Provincial Hall, the Phuket Courthouse and Nakhon Luang Thai Bank.
